Achieve the perfect finish for your doors with our classic oval Whatfield Eschutchon Plate that will protect your keyhole and offset your other door fittings beautifully. Made from solid, natural brass or high quality forged iron, these escutcheons add decorative interest to your door as well as providing much needed protection.
The term escutcheon comes from the Latin for shield and was first used to describe shield shaped emblems on heraldry and coats of arms in Medieval Europe. Over time, as people wanted more privacy and the use of doors became more common, escutcheons were adapted to refer to the small, functional shields that were used to protect keyholes from wear and tear and banish draughts.
Shown above in our polished finish, this escutcheon is lovingly crafted from high quality steel and painted in polished for a contemporary gunmetal grey appeal. All
Jim Lawrence products are made using traditional metal working techniques and are hand finished to the highest standards here at our Suffolk workshop.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
Dimensions: 5H x3W (cms)
Finish: Polished - a gunmetal finish that highlights the natural colour of polished, lacquered iron for a vintage or industrial look that suits a contemporary setting and will update a traditional one. To produce the finish, we coat our steel products in a metallic lacquer that emulates the texture and patina of iron and gives the product great character that looks wonderful with grey or natural colourways and works particularly well with other metallic finishes such as nickel.
