For all types of screws it is recommended you drill a pilot hole first to prevent screws from shearing off, particurly if you are using hardwood.
STEP 1
Correctly position the internal plate on the inside of your door.
STEP 2
Mark where the screws holes are to be.
STEP 3
Remove the plate and drill a pilot hole with a drill bit the same size as the screws. Use a steel screw of the same size and drive it into the hole until fully seated.

Remove the steel screw, position the plate correctly and screw directly to the door by hand using the 4 screws provided. If any screws need shortening, please use a hacksaw.
