Made with our customary attention to detail, our beautifully Reeded Escutcheon plates are inspired by the best of Georgian design and have been made to compliment our
Reeded Door Knob range and Georgian window stays and latches.
The term escutcheon comes from the Latin for shield and was first used to describe shield shaped emblems on heraldry and coats of arms in Medieval Europe. Over time, as people wanted more privacy and the use of doors became more common, escutcheons were adapted to refer to the small, functional shields that were used to protect keyholes from wear and tear and banish draughts.
Shown above in our popular matt black finish, this escutcheon is lovingly crafted from high quality steel. All
Jim Lawrence products are made using traditional metal working techniques and are hand finished to the highest standards here at our Suffolk workshop.
