Our classic Priory Escutcheon Plate is the perfect finish for your door, protecting your keyhole and setting off other door fittings beautifully. Made from solid, natural brass or high quality forged iron, these escutcheons add decorative interest to your door as well as providing much needed protection. This version, in our nickel finish is made from solid brass that is nickel plated and features a classic oval surround with a hinged flap to help keep out any draughts.
The word escutcheon is derived from the Latin for 'shield' and was originally used in Medieval times to describe the shield shaped emblems on coats of arms. Over time, as people wanted more privacy and the use of doors became more common, the term escutcheon was adapted to refer to the small, functional plates that were used to protect the keyhole from wear and tear.
Shown above in our nickel finish, this escutcheon is lovingly crafted from natural brass and nickel plated for a bright, reflective appeal. All
Jim Lawrence products are made using traditional metal working techniques and are hand finished to the highest standards here at our Suffolk workshop.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
Dimensions: 4.2H x 2.6W x 0.5D (cms)
Finish: Nickel - our nickel finish has a bright, silvery quality that is more akin to Chromium than many other nickel finishes available elsewhere. Its lustre is created by plating solid brass with highly polished nickel then finishing it with a flash coating of chrome that will add to its durability. Nickel is a versatile finish that works well with any colourway and looks equally at home in a modern property as it does a period one. Being highly reflective, will catch the light more than our painted finishes, so is great to use if you want to make a statement, as it will help draw your eye. For more information, see our
