DESCRIPTION Banish those pesky draughts with our clever portieres that allow a curtain to be hung over a door without getting in the way of the door opening and closing. A portiere is designed with a swivel bracket that attaches to the door frame (or adjoining wall) at one end, and a support bracket attached to the back of the door at the other, so that the attached rod can move with the door. Our 12mm button ended portieres are handcrafted from high quality forged iron that is painted old ivory, and can be made to any length you require up to a maximum of 1.2m. If you have the space, we suggest making your rod longer than the width of your doorframe so that the curtain covers the crack where the door meets it.For more information about portieres and help with choosing and measuring your portiere, please read our handy Guide to Portieres in the Jim Lawrence Knowledge Base. Also, discover 3 Easy ways to banish draughts in the Jim Lawrence blog.HANDCRAFTED QUALITY AND CUSTOM SIZINGAll Jim Lawrence products are made using traditional metal working techniques and are hand finished to the very highest standards at our Suffolk workshop. To ensure your portiere is the correct length, we require the length from the tip of the finial to the centre of the hinge (The hinge is 2cm wide). Rings are sold separately and can be purchased by clicking on 'Recommended Accessories'.We suggest 1 ring every 7/8cm but you may want more if your curtain fabric is particularly heavy. We also manufacture a wide range of curtain holdbacks and hooks to help keep your curtains tidy when drawn back.FINISHOld Ivory: created by overlaying the metal with gold paint and an ivory top coat that is carefully distressed to reveal the gold underneath. The powder coating process insures the finish is smooth and durable and gives it a soft, shabby chic finish that will look particularly good in any traditional setting.
