DESCRIPTION Our button ended portiere rod is designed to open and close with a door so you can hang curtains easily to keep out a draught. Hand crafted from high quality forged iron that is traditionally beeswaxed for a soft, black look, the portieres are 12mm thick and made to measure according to what length you require. All Jim Lawrence products are made using traditional metal working techniques and are hand finished to the very highest standards at our Suffolk workshop. To ensure your portiere is the correct length, we require the length from the tip of the finial to the centre of the hinge (The hinge is 2cm wide). For help with choosing and measuring your portiere, please read our handy Guide to Portieres in the Jim Lawrence Knowledge Base. Rings are sold separately and can be purchased by clicking on 'Recommended Accessories'. We suggest 1 ring every 7cm but you may want more if your curtain fabric is particularly heavy. This can be done from your basket, after you've added the rings. Kindly note, we do not recommend the beeswax finish for use in a humid environment, as it is harder to maintain and may rust. We feel Matt Black is a preferable option. Finish Beeswax: A traditional technique used since Tudor times. The metal is heated until it darkens and then dipped in natural beeswax which gives is a lovely soft black wrought iron effect which looks fabulous in any traditional or contemporary interior. As beeswax is a natural finish that reacts with the underlying metal during the forging process, it often has a subtle, slightly mottled patina with undertones of deep grey or ochre. It is not waterproof, so will need to be rewaxed occasionally. To find out more about our finishes and how to look after them, please read our Caring for Beeswax page in the Jim Lawrence Knowledge Base.
