DESCRIPTION A gorgeous, semi-sheer fabric that makes a lovely alternative to net curtains where you wish to maximise the natural light into a room but limit visibility from outside. Our Lara Voile in White is a lovely white colour with a distinctive, lose weave that gives it a wonderfully tactile texture and uniform appearance yet is weighty enough to create a beautiful drape. Voile comes from the French term for veil. It is a soft, sheer fabric, usually made of 99% cotton or cotton blended with linen or polyester. Because of its light weight, the fabric is mostly used to make sheer curtains and lampshades. Voiles or sheers refers to any lightweight, transparent or semi-opaque fabric rather than a solid one. They can be plain or patterned, with woven or printed detail and are designed to look light, floaty and sometimes even dreamy at your windows. Some patterned or textured voiles give an attractive, dappled-lighting effect to the room as the strong sunlight passes through them creating interesting shapes and shadow patterns. WHAT ARE VOILES USED FOR? The beauty voiles is that they allow plenty of natural light into a room while limiting visibility from outside, so they are most commonly used on their own or alongside heavier curtains as an elegant alternative to the old fashioned, fussy 'net' curtains of yesteryear. Today's lightweight voile fabrics have two valuable dual purposes - protection and privacy. As well as preventing your interior being visible from outside, they will block out some of the heat and glare of sunlight preventing furniture and soft furnishing from fading and helping to keep your rooms cooler. IS VOILE EASY TO CLEAN? Cotton voile is easy to clean but may shrink if it becomes too hot. We always recommend dry cleaning our fabrics as they have not been tested in a washing maching. But most sheer fabrics can be washed on a gentle or delicate washing machine programme at home and hung up to dry naturally. We do not recommend drying them in a tumble dryer. Cotton voile will wrinkle. The same properties that gives the fabric it’s sheerness and crispness, will also make it wrinkle easily. Ironing on a high cotton setting will easily remove any wrinkles prior to hanging.
