DO YOUR HANDLES COME IN PAIRS?
Yes, all our mortice lever and knob handles come as a pair and are supplied with a spindle and the backplate of your choice.
- Our lever handles are sprung on both sides.
- The knob handles are sprung on one side.
HOW LONG DO HANDLES TAKE TO MAKE?
All our door handles are assembled to order so take a maximum of 7 days to dispatch. Bespoke handles have a maximum 6 week lead time.
WHICH FINISHES ARE SUITABLE FOR OUTDOORS?
All our finishes are suitable for use outdoor except beeswax and our porcelain door knobs. Beeswax is a traditional finish that has been used since Tudor times to produce a wrought iron effect and soft feel to the metal - but it is not waterproof, so is not suitable for use outdoors or in bathrooms.
WHAT DO THEY COME SUPPLIED WITH?
Our mortice lever, knob and drop door handles are supplied as a pair with a 75mm spindle and fixing screws in the same finish. Our Polished handles are supplied with stainless steel screws. ARE THEY SUITABLE FOR A FRONT DOOR?
You can use any of our lever or knob handles on a front door. As you will need to lock your door, we recommend choosing a backplate with a keyhole incorporated, or, if you wish to have a short rectangular plate, or one of our round plates that has no keyhole, we suggest you choose a separate escutcheon plate to surround and protect your keyhole.
ARE YOUR HANDLES SPRUNG?
Yes, our lever handles are sprung on both sides, while our knob handles are only sprung on one side. That means each individual lever handle is sprung on both sides of the collar assembly to enable it to spring back into place after it has been pulled down.
Knob handles have a turning mechanism rather than a lever one, so it is only necessary for them to have one spring in the assembly.
CAN YOU MAKE A SINGLE HANDLE?
We can make a single handle as a bespoke request. Please call our friendly customer service team on
01473 826685 to discuss your requirements.
As a general guide, the cost is half the price of standard pair plus a £15 or £25 bespoke fee. For more information see our:
Bespoke Services >
CAN I GET A LONGER SPINDLE?
All our door handles are supplied with a standard length spindle that is 7.5cm in length and can be cut down to the depth of your door.
- We can also supply a 9cm length spindle upon request.
- Our Rim Locks come with a longer spindle that is 12cm in length. A longer one of 13cm can be supplied upon request.
HOW DO YOUR PRIVACY HANDLES WORK?
Our privacy handles are supplied with a thumb turn on one side and a blank plate on the other. The thumb turn plate is fitted to the inside of your loo or bathroom so you can lock it, while the blank plate on the outside. In an emergency, you can unlock the door from the outside by using a flat head screwdriver.
DO YOU MAKE HANDLES FOR MULTI-POINT LOCKING DOORS (EURO HANDLES)?
We can make bespoke handles for use with a multi-point locking system - where you lift the handle to lock the door as a bespoke request
These door handles are unsprung and can be used indoors and outside in all finishes except Beeswax which we don't recommend for outdoors because it is not waterproof and will rust. Our Euro handles are available in any of our lever handle range and with a bevelled or hammered edge.
As these handles are custom made, we will require some measurements. For more information and to download a form, please see our Bespoke Eurohandles Guide >
CAN I CHOOSE A DIFFERENT FINISH ON EACH SIDE OF THE DOOR?
If you would like a different handle design or finish for each side of your door, we can make it for you as a bespoke request.
Both sides will need to be either a lever or a knob design due to their differing mechanisms. We cannot pair lever handles with knobs on the same door.
We will also need to know the handing – whether it will be fitted to the left or right side of your door – so we can be sure we make the correct handle in the correct design/finish for the correct side of your door.
Kindly note, we do not recommend our Beeswax finish for external use or in a bathroom, wet room or shower room as it is a natural finish that is not waterproof and will rust. We recommend matt black as an alternative. For a guide on how we determine the handing, please see our Knowledge Base Guide:
