6 living room wall lights
for layered lighting

Are you seeking the perfect lighting for your living room? Discover how carefully considered wall lights can completely transform your space by layering light. Remember, layering light is all about using light to create the right atmosphere in a room. You may need brighter light for working or reading by and softer light for relaxing or entertaining. To create successful layers of light, you need to combine ambient lighting - the general light available in a room, with task lighting - for reading and working by, and accent lighting - to highlight curtain features of areas within a room. Our collection of living room wall lights come in all shapes and sizes and with differing types of illumination so you can create perfect layers of light in a living room, as well as a stylish impact.

1. THE CLUB WALL LIGHT

A downward facing light with a simple silhouette, the Club is an excellent creator of ambience without taking over the room. Its spun brass metal shade creates a focussed pool of light that is ideal for tasking if placed over a countertop or desk and conjures up a cosy feel in a larger space. The Club can be the perfect choice for cottage interiors and smaller spaces, or for a larger room where you want to create a cosier atmosphere.

A Jim Lawrence classic, the Club is an enduring customer favourite, blending effortlessly into all manner of home styles. It is also available with a pull cord, as a plug-in wall light and an articulated version ideal for bedside or desk lighting. For the full range of Club lighting, see our Perfect Partners - The Club Family.

2. THE HANSON LIBRARY

Designed with a single swing arm that enables you to move the light where you need it, the Hanson Library wall light is one of our daintier adjustable wall sconces with a narrow, deep, rectangular backplate that is ideal for fitting onto shelves, storage units or brightening up those dark nooks and crannies.

The Hanson can be used without a shade which means that it projects ample ambient light for general illumination in a room. Use without a shade for tasking light, or pair it with a light coloured, or fabric in a fine weave such as cotton, linen or silk to allow more light to escape through the shade as well as from the top and bottom. If you are more interested in creating a dramatic look, or wish to achieve a cosier, more intimate feel, pair your Hanson with a darker coloured shade, or one in a thicker fabric such as wool or velvet to create more distinctive pools of light for beautiful accent lighting in  your living room.

The Hanson Library is part of our wider Hanson family of lights that includes double hinged wall lights, with and without a pull cord, and a plug-in version. We recommend our collection of exquisite, handmade 15cm Empire Candle Clip shades or 13cm French Drum Candle Clip shades make the best partners for your Hanson wall lights

3. DOUBLE COTTAGE WALL LIGHT

The Cottage wall lights were among our first ever designs made at Jim Lawrence. Still one of our most popular lights, these flush fitting wall lights have a decorative ribbon design and generous drip trays, both elegant and rustic in equal measure. We make double or single options in a variety of finishes to best suit your space and all ready to be paired with a beautiful fabric shade of your choosing for a softly diffused glow.

We feel our collection of exquisite, handmade 15cm Empire Candle Clip shades or 13cm French Drum Candle Clip shades make the best partners for your Cottage wall lights.

4. SINGLE CURTIS SPOTLIGHT

The Single Curtis combines the traditional, vintage styling of our Club wall light with the practicality of a spotlight enabling you to fit it to walls, the ceiling, joists or beams, as well as directing the light where you need it. The most versatile of lights, the Curtis can be used as an uplighter or downlight depending on how you fit it, and projects a lovely pool of light that is ideal for tasking if placed next to a favourite armchair, table or desk for reading.

The Curtis is our go-to wall light for creating accent lighting in a living room because it will banish shadows from hard-to-reach corners and can be used to accentuate architectural features such as high or vaulted ceiling, alcoves, arches and characterful nooks and crannies. It's dainty proportions makes it an ideal living room wall light to lift dark corners in smaller rooms and those with low ceilings where you may not wish to use pendant ceiling lights that encroach on your headroom. It is also available as a double spotlight.

5. THE SCALLOP WALL LIGHT

Dare to be different with our sculptural Scallop wall light. This bold design was inspired by Jim & Sheena's family holidays on the west coast of Scotland where eating fresh scallops and collecting shells was a favourite past time. Not just for coastal cottages, the Scallop adds a striking silhouette to living spaces that is playful whilst providing ample light for artwork, shelving and cosy corners. As a downlight, it is perfect for washing your living room with lovely layers of light for a cosy ambience.

The Scallop is also available as a plug-in option, and can be paired with our Saunton wall lights for elegant bathroom lighting, and with our single and double Shell wall lights if you would like to combine your downlight with wall scones that take a shade for additional living room lights.

6. THE CHESTER

One of most popular glass wall lights, the Chester gives the appearance of a traditional, heritage candle light, but with the benefit of mains power! Use this wall sconce in living rooms, hallways and dining rooms or wherever you want to bring a touch of the past to the space. With its clear glass shade, the Chester brings ample light into a room making it ideal for general ambient lighting. Glass is perfect in rooms where you want to create a sense of openness because its airy, translucent quality reflects light everywhere, making the most of natural light without encroaching on the sense of space.
