How do your letter plates work?
External Plates
The external letter plates are supplied with 2 bolts that simply bolt through the door.
To fit the plate:
Step 1 - Position The Plate
First correctly position the plate on the outside of your door
Step 2 - Mark The Holes
Mark where the bolt holes need to be.
Step 3
Remove the plate and drill a pilot hole. Make sure the hole you are drilling is slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw supplied.
Step 4
Reposition the plate and screw into place with the 2 bolts, washers and nuts provided. The internal letter plates are supplied with 4 wood screws and 2 countersunk screws.
If you are using Jim Lawrence external and internal letter plates together, you will need to replace the 2 bolts supplied with the external plate, with the 2 countersunk screws supplied with the internal plate, as the internal plate will not fit over the bolts. The countersunk screws enable the internal plate to sit flush with so it to be fitted.
If you are using our internal letter plate with a NON Jim Lawrence external plate, you may find the screws are not compatible. However, we can provide you with more countersunk screws if you call our friendly customer service team on 01473 828989.
Brass Plates
Brass is a softer metal than steel, so screws may occasionally snap if being used in hard wood. We suggest a pilot hole is made using a similarly sized steel screw first, then the brass screw can be threaded in more easily.
How to fit the internal letter plate:
Step 1
Correctly position the internal plate on the inside of your door.
Step 2
Mark where the screws holes are to be.
Step 3
Remove the plate and drill the screw holes with a drill bit the same size as the screws.
Step 4
Position the plate correctly and screw directly to the door using the 4 screws provided. If any screws need shortening, please use a hacksaw. OUR ADDRESS
