As with all rooms in your home, the key to great lighting is achieving the right balance between bright light for working by and softer light for creating ambience. Think about creating layers of light for a complete look, mixing overhead ceiling lights for great light output with wall sconces, table lamps and and floor lamps for a diffused glow. Control your lighting with dimmable bulbs and dimmer switches and you will achieve the perfect lighting for any dining space.

1. USE PENDANTS TO MAKE A STATEMENT 

Your dining table is the main focus of your dining room, so using a beautiful statement ceiling light fitted above it will create balance and a sense of drama. Ceiling pendants come in all shapes and sizes so choose glass or a pendant lampholder for a simple, uncluttered look where the glass will reflect light around the room without encroaching on the sense of space. Opt for a decorative, structural piece like our Sussex, Romana, or Florentine Pendants if you want to achieve a feeling of warmth and intimacy in the room. Make sure you fit them with LED buLbs that give off warm, white light or your space will feel cold and unwelcoming.

How high should I hang a pendant over a dining table?


Consider the height of your family members and what activities take place in the area. You don't want lights blocking the view of the person sitting opposite, or obstructing you when you stand up and sit down.

You may want lights lower over an eating or working area, or higher over a food preparation area.Generally, we advise pendants are hung around 70-100cm above a surface.

Can you adjust the length?


Our lighter pendant lights are supplied with 50cm of flex or braided cable only, and can be cut to length on installation. However, we recommend that our heavier pendant lights, that are supplied with 100cm of chain/cable, are cut to length in our workshop as a bespoke modification.

If you require longer lengths of chain/cable, we can this for you as a bespoke modification for a small additional cost upon request.

Can I Adjust The Length of My Pendant?

How bright do my lights need to be?


Most of our pendant lights are fitted with bayonet lamp holders for either small bayonet (SBC, B15) bulbs or standard bayonet (BC, B22) bulbs. A few are made with an Edison Screw lamp holder (ES, E27).

Commonly, SBC bulbs are around 3-4 LED Watts (equivalent to a 40-50W incandescent bulb) and BC and ES bulbs are around 6-7W LED (60-70W incandescent).
